Marooned Story Starters

We have been writing story starters for our marooned adventure. Our goal was to capture the interest of the reader by:
1. Create excitement in the first few sentences.
2. Create mystery. Make our reader wonder what is happening.

Here are some of our story starters.

While we were kayaking a dark cloud drifted above our heads. It started raining heavily and a storm struck one of the boats. "Help!" screamed Stuart.
"You big baby!" yelled Karla.
By Amber

"Jump in the lifeboats! yelled the captain. I heard the boom of a cannon. I lost consciousness. When I awoke, crack, I punched a pirate. I turned and jumped into a life boat.
By Ben

"Hit the deck!" I screamed, as a big wave washed over me. I got a mouthful of sand as I washed up on the beach. I got up. "Where am I?" I said.

Wow! I think you have achieved your goal. There certainly is excitement in your first few sentences. Your use of interesting vocabulary made your writing come alive and made me want to know more!
I look forward to reading what comes next!
What is your next learning step for your writing?
